Tulsa Disaster Preparedness Event Unites Community and Organizations

In Tulsa, Oklahoma, the WUS Volunteer Ministers hosted a vibrant community event focused on disaster preparedness at the Rose District Plaza on August 1st. The gathering brought together local residents, community leaders, and representatives from various nonprofit and faith-based organizations to emphasize the importance of emergency readiness and collaboration. The event featured cultural performances by PAKILISTLI, Academia de Danza y Cultura Folklorica, whose founder Silvia Gallegos highlighted the mission to preserve cultural heritage through traditional dance. Guest speakers included Mirbek Baken from the Raindrop Turkish House, who discussed disaster-relief efforts and intercultural understanding; Felisa Hilbert from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who spoke about regional nonprofit work; Ramon Urbina of Angeles en Tulsa, who detailed recent humanitarian aid for Venezuelan earthquake victims; and representatives from the Salvation Army, including Lakresha Ferguson and Wayde Normandin, who underscored the need for preparedness education and acknowledged the Volunteer Ministers' assistance after the Enid tornado. A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official launch of the Volunteer Minister initiative in Tulsa, followed by tours of educational exhibits on disaster response and life skills training. The Volunteer Ministers program, established by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, operates globally and is featured in the documentary Operation: Do Something About It on the Scientology Network. This event showcased the power of interorganizational cooperation in enhancing community resilience and support networks throughout Oklahoma.
