Global Health Summit and Medical Fair Set to Transform Healthcare in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is set to host the fifth edition of International Healthcare Week from 11 to 31 May 2026, featuring two flagship events: the sixth Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) and the 17th Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair (Medical Fair). Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and co-organised with the HKSAR government and the Hong Kong MedTech Association, these events create a comprehensive business platform covering technology R&D, investment matching, medical equipment manufacturing, and healthcare services. Sophia Chong, Executive Director of the HKTDC, highlighted that Hong Kong leverages its role as an international financial centre and a superconnector between the Chinese Mainland and the world to drive medical innovation. The events align with the National 15th Five-Year Plan, focusing on biopharmaceuticals, AI-empowered healthcare, the silver economy, and modernisation of traditional Chinese medicine.

The ASGH, themed “Fuelling Healthcare Breakthroughs,” will feature a Nobel Prize laureate, Professor Michael Levitt, alongside global health officials and industry leaders. Plenary sessions will address pandemic preparedness, cross-sector collaboration, and investment in healthcare. New this year is a CSO Insights session on AI drug discovery and precision medicine. The Summit also includes thematic sessions on AI in healthcare, the silver economy, and Chinese medicine development, as well as an InnoHealth Showcase with 180 exhibitors from 11 countries. The Medical Fair, themed “Innovations Boosting Smart Health Experience,” will gather 300 exhibitors focusing on MedTech, GeronTech, and Preventive Healthcare. Highlights include a smart health wearable integrating Chinese and Western medicine, an AR surgical platform for orthopaedics, and a world-first smart knee brace using AI and wearable tech. The Fair also features over 50 forums, including one on mental health innovation.

Both events adopt an “EXHIBITION+” hybrid model, with physical fairs at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and online matching via the Click2Match platform. International Healthcare Week spans 17 healthcare-related activities, aiming to promote innovation and investment in Asian healthcare. Key players include HKTDC, the HKSAR government, and strategic partners like Shanghai Industrial Investment Holdings. The events reinforce Hong Kong’s position as a leading biotech and investment hub, driving the ‘Healthy China’ initiative and regional collaboration.
