Louisiana Contemporary Turns 15: Celebrating the State's Artistic Vitality

The Ogden Museum of Southern Art is celebrating the 15th anniversary of its signature juried exhibition, Louisiana Contemporary, presented by The Helis Foundation. Since its launch in 2012, the exhibition has showcased the work of over 650 artists, highlighting the vibrant artistic practice across Louisiana. This year, juror Sarah Jones, Lulu C. and Anthony W. Wang Head of Live Arts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, selected 50 works by 45 artists from more than 1,786 submissions. The exhibition runs from August 1, 2026, to February 14, 2027, at the Ogden Museum in New Orleans.

Among the featured artists is Pam Skehan, whose paintings "Woman in Waiting" and "Tipping Point" are currently on display at Wine Art Gallery. Wine Art Gallery, located on Gallery Row in the Arts District of New Orleans, is dedicated to supporting emerging artists, with over 80% of its represented artists being female or from underrepresented groups. The gallery actively seeks local and international talent, including British, French, and Spanish artists, fostering a diverse cultural melting pot. Its location on Julia Street, anchored by two Michelin-starred restaurants—Emeril's and Peche—positions it as a key player in New Orleans' thriving arts scene.

The Louisiana Contemporary exhibition remains a pivotal event for the state's artists, offering exposure and validation on a national stage. By featuring a wide range of voices, from established to emerging, the exhibition underscores the richness of Louisiana's creative landscape.
