Frontieras and Western Fuels Partner to Build Coal-to-Clean Fuels Facility in Wyoming

Frontieras North America and Western Fuels have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop a mine-mouth FASForm(TM) processing facility at the Dry Fork Mine near Gillette, Wyoming. This collaboration aims to leverage Frontieras' patented technology to convert coal into valuable products, including ultra-low-sulfur diesel, naphtha, and FASCarbon(TM). The MOU outlines long-term agreements covering the facility site, coal feedstock supply of up to 2.7 million tons annually initially, and 5.4 million tons at full build-out, as well as Western Fuels' purchase of ultra-low-sulfur diesel and potential use of its transportation capabilities for product streams.

This initiative is a key step in Frontieras' strategy to scale its FASForm(TM) technology across Wyoming and the West, both through mine-mouth facilities and its FASGEN(TM) platform for coal-fired power plants. The closed-loop process is designed to be zero-waste, converting coal into cleaner fuels and industrial chemicals. Under the MOU, FASCarbon(TM) produced at the facility could be transported to Western Fuels Association member utilities or sold internationally. The project aligns with growing interest in cleaner coal technologies and could create a new revenue stream for the coal industry while addressing environmental concerns.

The proposed facility would be Frontieras' second commercial-scale project, following its first in West Virginia. The company, headquartered in Houston, holds an international patent portfolio. Western Fuels, a cooperative that supplies coal to rural electric co-ops, would benefit from a stable supply of ultra-low-sulfur diesel and potential revenue from coal sales.
