Centenario Gold Completes Phase 1 Exploration at Los Reyes, Mexico

Centenario Gold Corp. (TSXV: CTG) has announced the completion of its first phase exploration program on the Los Reyes Project, a copper and gold asset near Chihuahua, Mexico. The program involved mapping and sampling old mine dumps and underground workings along the intrusive-limestone contact zone, where Cu-rich skarn zones are present. Historical records indicate that approximately 200,000 tons of Cu-Zn-Ag material were mined from Los Reyes by ASARCO in the late 1800s to early 1900s. The project comprises two mineral claims, El Rey (36.0 hectares) and El Rey 2 (9.3 hectares), located 1.8 km apart. Phase one included geological reconnaissance, alteration mapping, and collection of 58 rock samples from surface outcrops, waste dumps, and underground workings at the Tuesda and Jibosa shafts. This is the first modern systematic sampling of the underground portion of the project. Samples were sent to ALS Chemex for analysis using fire assay for gold and acid digestion for 34 other elements. Results are expected by mid-June. The company plans a second phase drilling program of 1,500 meters in July, targeting down-dip extensions of the Cu-rich skarn zones identified by the sampling. The Los Reyes Project is located 225 km south of Chihuahua City, along Highway 49, near the town of Jimenez. The El Rey mineral claim contains the most significant old mine workings in the district. Penoles, a major Mexican mining company, controls surrounding ground around the granodiorite intrusive. The exploration program was designed to review existing geological data from IMMSA (1992) and Valterra Resources Corporation (2019). The mineralization occurs as chalcopyrite, bornite, malachite, azurite, and chalcocite within irregular, semi-tabular lenses or bodies up to 60 meters wide. Some zones mined by ASARCO exceeded 125 meters in length. At the Tuesda shaft, the mineralized zone showed thickness up to 20 meters, while at Jibosa it did not exceed 15 meters. Higher sulfide content is presumed north of the Tuesda Shaft, and fragments of magnetite and skarn found in old dumps suggest Cu-Au skarn-type mineralization.
