None of 24 DTC Brands Audited Are Structured for AI Recommendation
What We Found When We Checked Whether AI Could Actually Read 24 DTC Storefronts
Wellington, United States - October 2, 2026 / Firon Marketing /
Firon Marketing, a Generative Engine Optimization agency working with direct to consumer and Shopify Plus brands, today released the second phase of its AI Readiness Audit benchmark study. Across 24 established direct to consumer brands spanning apparel, skincare, supplements, home goods, food and beverage, and baby and family, not a single brand carried the complete set of structured data signals that AI assistants rely on to source and verify product recommendations. The study measured three signals. FAQPage schema, which allows AI systems to extract a brand’s own answers to common customer questions. Organization schema carrying a sameAs property, which gives AI systems a verified path to cross reference a brand against its social profiles and press coverage. And Product schema carrying an AggregateRating value, which supplies the price, availability, and review data that AI shopping surfaces use to rank one product against another.**Zero brands had all three. Zero brands had any one of the three on every audited page.****FINDINGS**Firon's audit measured three structured data signals plus Core Web Vitals across 24 brands. The results:- FAQPage schema present: 0 of 24- Organization schema with a sameAs property: 0 of 24- Product schema with an AggregateRating value: 0 of 24- Brands passing Google's 2.5 second LCP threshold: 0 of 22 with measurable data- Average Largest Contentful Paint: 17.4 seconds- Slowest homepage recorded: 54.51 seconds- Brands with a missing or duplicated H1: 23 of 24Two brands in the August batch carried Organization schema but left the sameAs property empty, meaning AI systems could see that a company existed without being able to verify which company it was. No brand in either batch published FAQ schema, despite several running visible question and answer sections in plain text on the homepage.Page speed failures were universal. Of the 22 brands returning measurable lab data, every one failed Google’s Largest Contentful Paint threshold of 2.5 seconds. The average across the full sample was 17.4 seconds. In the August batch, average Total Blocking Time reached 13.9 seconds against a 0.2 second standard, and the average homepage transferred 26.5 megabytes. Every brand in that batch loaded at least 25 third party scripts. Three loaded more than 80."Every brand in this study has a marketing team, an agency, and a budget," said Alex Jordan, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Firon Marketing. "What none of them has is a machine readable identity. AI assistants do not browse a website the way a shopper does. They parse it. When someone asks an AI assistant for the best organic baby food or the best mushroom coffee, the model is reading structured data to decide which brands are verifiable enough to name. A brand with no schema is not losing that comparison. It was never entered into it."Firon argues the gap is a structural problem rather than a competitive one. Because no brand in the sample has the signals, the category has no leader in AI recommendation, and the first brands to publish complete structured data stand to capture citation share across an entire vertical before competitors recognize the shift.**METHODOLOGY**Firon audited each brand’s homepage and, where applicable, one or more product or collection pages using its AI Readiness Audit tool between June and August 2026. Structured data presence was assessed by scanning rendered pages for JSON-LD markup. Page speed figures reflect a single lab measurement per site and are directional rather than field data. Brands are not named. One additional domain from the original sample was excluded after the audit confirmed the storefront had been replaced with a domain sale listing.**About Firon Marketing**[Firon Marketing](https://fironmarketing.com/) is a Generative Engine Optimization and SEO agency working with direct to consumer and Shopify Plus brands on visibility inside AI search systems including ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Claude.
