XERF, manufactured by Cynosure Lutronic, delivers radiofrequency energy at two frequencies, 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz, to heat tissue at multiple depths. The device pairs that energy with integrated cooling designed to keep treatment comfortable without numbing. XERF launched in South Korea in 2024 and reached Japan, Hong Kong and Canada before entering the U.S. market.

The FDA clearance covers dermatologic and general surgical procedures for electrocoagulation and hemostasis. According to the manufacturer, skin tightening effects associated with XERF occur through soft tissue coagulation.

The Nashville launch comes as patients nationwide favor treatments focused on restoring what time has changed. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons' 2025 Procedural Statistics Report found that cosmetic surgical procedures rose 7% over the prior year. The organization attributed that growth largely to patients addressing aging, weight loss and other life changes, rather than seeking a dramatic transformation. The same report found that neuromodulators and hyaluronic acid fillers together accounted for 80% of minimally invasive procedures.

"Patients have asked us for years about firming their skin without needles, surgery or time away from work and family," said Katie Tsakeres, co-owner and nurse practitioner injector at Melrose Aesthetics. "The national numbers match what we see in our treatment rooms. People want to look like a rested version of themselves. With XERF, patients see an initial change that continues to build over about three months as their bodies produce new collagen, and that gradual timeline fits how most of our patients want to age."

Melrose Aesthetics providers use XERF for mild to moderate skin laxity on the face and neck. That includes loss of firmness along the jawline, early jowling, crepey skin and fine lines. Each treatment begins with a consultation, where a nurse practitioner reviews the patient's skin, medical history and goals to determine candidacy.

The practice also reports that early patient feedback has centered on comfort during treatment and the ability to return to normal activities the same day.
