During the 1970s, Hong Kong cinema experienced an international surge, reshaping action filmmaking and popular culture across the United States. Spearheaded by the renowned Shaw Brothers Studio, seminal films such as Five Fingers of Death, The Flying Guillotine, and Shaolin Martial Arts transformed both the cinematic landscape and the martial arts movement in America.

Amid a golden era of action stars - including Alexander Fu Sheng, David Chiang, and Ti Lung - Chen distinguished himself as an accomplished, authentic martial artist. He trained in Monkey Kung Fu (Tai Shing Pek Kwar) under Grandmaster Chan Sau Chung, becoming one of his top full-contact fighters.

Entering the film industry in 1969, Chen built a career spanning more than five decades and over 157 feature films. Affectionately known as "Brother Tai" through his iconic Shaolin film roles, his notable screen credits include The Flying Guillotine, Heroes Two, Iron Monkey, and The Man with the Iron Fists.

In recognition of his lasting impact on action cinema and martial arts history, Chen was officially inducted into the Martial Arts History Museum’s Hall of Fame in 2014.
