Vme TV's AI Series Uncovers Hispanic Heroes of American Revolution

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, Vme TV is spotlighting the often-overlooked contributions of Hispanic and Spanish figures to the American Revolution with a new original short-form series, Aliados por la Libertad. Premiering September 15 for Hispanic Heritage Month, the Spanish-language series airs on Vme TV and across the network’s digital platforms, including YouTube and social media. Using generative AI, the series recreates the world of the 18th century, bringing to life figures such as Bernardo de Gálvez, the Spanish governor of Louisiana whose military campaigns at Baton Rouge, Mobile, and Pensacola denied Britain a southern front; Juan de Miralles, the Cuban-born merchant who served as Spain’s informal envoy to the Continental Congress; Diego de Gardoqui, the Basque merchant who covertly shipped arms and supplies to the Continental Army; Francisco de Miranda, the Venezuelan-born officer who fought at the Siege of Pensacola; and Jorge Farragut, the Spanish-born sailor who fought at the Siege of Charleston and the Battle of Cowpens and became the father of the first U.S. Navy admiral.

According to Michael Fernández, Vice President of Marketing and People at Vme Media, the series aims to reveal a more inclusive narrative: “Aliados por la Libertad is really about looking at a story we think we know and discovering who has been missing from it. Hispanic history isn’t separate from American history. These stories show just how deeply the two have been connected from the beginning.” The series is already expanding, with a new episode in production featuring Felicitas de Saint-Maxent, the New Orleans-born Creole whose marriage to Gálvez connected him to influential local society. Vme turned to generative AI to visualize a world preserved mainly through static portraits, paintings, maps, and documents, building an 18th-century visual world spanning colonial New Orleans, Havana, Bilbao, the Atlantic, and the Gulf Coast battlefields—all grounded in documented historical research and under human creative direction. “The technology had to disappear into the story,” Fernández said. “We don’t want someone watching an episode and thinking about AI.
