Tovel AI Launches Card Recorder With Mandatory Human Approval

Tovel AI, a Michigan-based company led by co-founder and CEO John LeRoy, has launched the Tovel AI Card, a pocket-sized recorder and companion app that captures calls, meetings, and in-person conversations and then prepares follow-up work like CRM records, calendar events, tasks, and contacts. The product stands out by requiring mandatory human approval before any record is created, a deliberate contrast to autonomous AI agents that act without confirmation. “If we remove the human, there’s no accountability,” LeRoy said. “Users need to be accountable for their actions.” The app identifies decisions, risks, and action items, populates fields, and shows the destination, record type, and key values, but creates nothing until a person confirms it. Users can later authorize rules for action types they trust.

The Tovel AI Card addresses a gap LeRoy saw in existing AI recording tools, which typically produce only transcripts and summaries, leaving the follow-up work to the user. Tovel instead instigates the follow-up actions, sorting each next step by what it should become—a contact, lead or opportunity with a value and stage, appointment, assigned task, quote or invoice, or follow-up message—and prepares the corresponding record. It ships with direct connections to more than 30 business applications, including Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho CRM, Pipedrive, ActiveCampaign, GoHighLevel, Follow Up Boss, and BoldTrail, as well as Google, Outlook, and Apple calendars; Zoom, Google Meet, and Calendly; Asana, ClickUp, Jira, Linear, Notion, monday.com, and Google Tasks; and Slack, Microsoft Teams, Gmail, Outlook, and QuickBooks Online. The device-based approach covers conversations that never touch a screen, such as client visits, property showings, and site inspections, and the app groups recordings into a searchable library. A consent mode asks how many participants are present and prompts each to state their name and consent before recording continues. “Laws about consent vary state by state, and it’s important to give the user the ability to comply,” LeRoy said. Subscriptions include a free plan with 120 transcription minutes per month, a $9.99 bring-your-own-AI plan with unlimited transcription and advanced summaries, and a $29.99 personal plan with Tovel-hosted AI usage. The Tovel AI Card is available at a launch price of $99 (regularly $159), with multi-device packages at $160 and $210.
