Plumbing Company Shelters Parrots in Unique Rescue Partnership

In a heartwarming display of corporate social responsibility, South Hills plumbing company Sureway Heating Cooling and Plumbing has partnered with Heart & Soul Parrot Rescue, a family-oriented organization founded in 1998 by Sherry Johnson. The rescue has successfully rehomed over 1,000 parrots across the Pittsburgh area through permanent adoptions and foster care. Sureway supports the rescue by providing storage space, a monthly meeting location, and assistance with fundraisers. At one point, as many as 30 parrots were housed in Sureway's warehouse. The partnership is personal: several employees and customers have adopted birds through the rescue.

Heart & Soul Parrot Rescue maintains rigorous standards. Prospective adopters must provide a safe, smoke-free home and complete a training class covering safe foods, bedding cleaning, interaction, and enrichment. Every bird undergoes a medical exam before adoption. The rescue participates in local events such as Bridgeville Day on the Ave, Pittsburgh Pet Expo, Tekko, and the Brentwood Fourth of July Parade.

Sureway Heating Cooling and Plumbing, founded in 2014 and formerly John Wilcox Plumbing and Heating, serves the South Hills including Mt. Lebanon and Scott Township.
