Pasadena Police and Drug-Free World Unite for Community Drug Prevention

PASADENA, CA – The Pasadena Police Department recently hosted a community event that combined public safety demonstrations with a strong anti-drug message, drawing families and local leaders. The centerpiece was an interactive display featuring specialized gear and emergency response equipment, with officers on hand to explain the hardware and answer questions. The department's Mounted Enforcement Unit added a touch of spectacle, parading on horseback and highlighting the role of community policing. Attendees also explored a variety of informational booths, but the star was the Drug Free World mobile exhibit, which engaged hundreds in conversations about substance abuse prevention and led numerous youth to take a pledge to live drug-free.

The event also marked significant collaborative milestones. The Pasadena Library formally accepted a supply of educational booklets to make available to the public, and the Elks Club Drug Awareness Program acquired 400 booklets for its outreach. A particularly heartwarming moment came when an 8-year-old boy, after taking the pledge, connected a public service announcement about alcohol-related accidents to the dangers of drugs. He eagerly asked for the website to learn more, stating, "I'm going to watch all the videos." This underscores the impact of the Truth About Drugs program, which is provided by the Foundation for a Drug-Free World, a nonprofit that has distributed 100 million booklets and held events in 180 countries. The foundation offers free Truth About Drugs e-courses to help individuals make informed decisions.
