NYC Marks 9/11 25th Anniversary with Humanitarian Tribute in Times Square

In the heart of Times Square, New York City marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks with a solemn yet uplifting commemoration that blended remembrance with a message of humanitarian service and hope. The event, held at the NYPD booth in Times Square, was led by Rev. Massimo Parrino, President of the L. Ron Hubbard Foundation, who served as Master of Ceremonies. It brought together Scientology Volunteer Ministers, religious and community leaders, police officers, rescue workers, and government representatives to honor the victims, survivors, and first responders of 9/11. The choice of the NYPD booth was significant, symbolizing the ongoing dedication of public safety officers who ran toward danger on that tragic day and continue to protect the city.

The commemoration was intentionally linked with World Humanitarian Day, creating a bridge between remembrance and hope. Participants included Captain Bellingeri of the NYPD's Midtown South Precinct, and the event honored Jeff Samerson, a retired FDNY EMT who performed the U.S. National Anthem after dedicating 27 years to service and working as a rescue worker post-9/11. Special recognitions were given to public servants like Michael Robinson, Michelle J. Alleyne, Edwinna Herrera, and Marilyn Miller. Congressman Adriano Espaillat's office presented an honor to the Volunteer Ministers for their service. The Scientology Volunteer Ministers, who sent approximately 800 volunteers to Ground Zero after the attacks, have since grown to over 250,000 trained volunteers, with humanitarian initiatives in over 190 countries. The event underscored that while we cannot change what happened on September 11, we can choose how we honor the memory: by continuing to serve others and build stronger communities.
