New Novel '50 Parachutes for 72 Virgins' Tackles Faith, Peace, and Terror in Chicago

In a bold fusion of faith and fiction, first-time author Richard D. Greensfelder has released "50 Parachutes for 72 Virgins," a novel that intertwines religion, spirituality, mystery, and suspense. The title itself is a provocative reference to a futuristic escape plan called "Plan Z" for the Sears Tower in Chicago, and the 50 parachutes symbolize the clerics assembled for a peace summit. Greensfelder, a retired Director of Admissions from Baltimore, Maryland, uses this Tolkien-esque tale of good versus evil to explore the consequences of a world drifting away from God.

The story centers on Archbishop Rooney, an outspoken and old-school cleric who organizes a Peace Summit at the Sears Tower's Skydeck just before Christmas, bringing together 12 representatives each from Christian, Hebrew, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, and Atheist backgrounds. His goal is to reignite global conscience, but terrorists have other plans. Rooney, with his sidekick Fr. Tommy Schaefer, laments the "God Old Days" (G.O.D.) and points to 1963 as a critical year when prayer was banned in public schools, asking if 13 trillion "The Lord's Prayers" could have made a difference. He famously says, "Evil fills the void whenever God is pushed away," a wake-up call for a nation losing its moral compass.
