New Book Explores Human Nature's Role in Environmental Sustainability

In a thought-provoking new book, Human Nature and the Potential in Nurture, author David Hawk delves into the intricate relationship between human behavior, social systems, and the environment. Drawing from his doctoral research in systems sciences at the University of Pennsylvania and collaboration with the Institute of International Business at the Stockholm School of Economics, Hawk examines how regulatory approaches and strategic threats shape interactions among individuals and institutions—and how these same patterns extend to humanity's relationship with nature. Hawk, who grew up on a farm in Iowa and served in Vietnam, brings decades of professional experience in engineering, planning, architecture, leadership development, and higher education to this research-based work. As Hawk states, 'The work grew from a desire to better understand the relationship between human systems and natural systems, and how patterns of behavior influence both.'
