Kavalan Wins Whisky of the Year Again – Back-to-Back Victory

For the second consecutive year, Kavalan Distillery has been awarded Whisky of the Year at the International Whisky Competition, solidifying its status as a global powerhouse in premium whisky. The 2026 event, held at the Louisville Thoroughbred Society, bestowed the prestigious Golden Barrel Trophy upon Kavalan Peatist Oloroso Sherry Cask Single Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky. This victory follows Kavalan's 2025 win with the Kavalan Solist Fino Sherry Single Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky, which scored an impressive 97.04 points. Competition Director Max A. Solano praised the winning expression, noting its "exceptional depth, balance, and complexity" as key factors in its triumph.

The winning whisky, crafted in Yilan County, Taiwan, showcases Kavalan's innovative approach to whisky-making, leveraging unique climate conditions and meticulous cask selection. Master of Scotch Octavio "Tavo" Bernal provided tasting notes that describe a nose of oily leather, earthy tea, and grilled mango, with a palate of chocolate-covered raisins and smoky barbecue, finishing with dark leather and cocoa nibs. This repeat victory underscores Kavalan's mastery in producing world-class single malt whiskies that consistently impress blind-tasting panels.

The International Whisky Competition, restructured in 2015, is renowned for its rigorous double-blind evaluation process. Each entry is judged without any knowledge of origin, category, or ABV, ensuring impartial results. The panel includes Masters from the Council of Whiskey Masters and industry veterans.
