Hong Kong & Thailand Forge Green Economy Alliance in Bangkok

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has launched a significant initiative to strengthen economic ties between Hong Kong and Thailand through the GreenBiz HK campaign in Bangkok. This multifaceted event, featuring a major forum, networking sessions, and business matching meetings, brought together over 550 government and business representatives. Key players included Dr Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, who delivered opening remarks, and Anna Cheung, Assistant Executive Director of the HKTDC, who emphasized Hong Kong's role as a "superconnector" in the green economy. The campaign's core mission is to foster collaboration in green finance, innovation, and sustainable urban development, positioning Hong Kong as an international hub for these sectors while supporting Thailand's Bio–Circular–Green (BCG) economic model.

The forum's plenary session, "Hong Kong-Thailand Partnerships for Sustainability and Innovation," featured prominent figures like Ms Chaoni Huang of the Hong Kong Green Finance Association (HKGFA) and HSBC, Dr Kang Qu from Bank of China (Hong Kong), Dr Kim Mak of ATAL Engineering Group, and Mr John Lo of the Asia Carbon Institute. They showcased Hong Kong's strengths in green finance and innovative tools for corporate ESG transformation. Concurrent breakout sessions delved into sustainable technology, integrated design, and green building standards, with participation from organizations like the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), Henderson Land, Arup, and the Thai National Innovation Agency. These discussions highlighted practical applications in green buildings, smart city solutions, and decarbonisation strategies, translating dialogue into concrete partnership opportunities.

Complementing the forum, a Hong Kong Green Team delegation, co-led by Ms Anna Cheung and Ir Dr Lo Wai Kwok, explored market opportunities in Thailand from March 17 to 20. The delegation, comprising 18 experts in architecture, engineering, ESG advisory, and green technology, engaged with major Thai entities like the Thai Green Building Institute (TGBI), The Eastern Economic Corridor Office of Thailand (EECO), and WHA Industrial Development. This initiative, part of the HKTDC's Economic and Trade Express (ETE) platform, aims to accelerate cross-border collaboration, enabling businesses to leverage Hong Kong's capital markets and professional services. The campaign underscores a shared vision for collective action in the green transition, with the HKTDC committed to ongoing missions and conferences to advance sustainable development across Southeast Asia and the Chinese Mainland.
