Dr. Jacqueline Youtsos Scholarship Opens for Future Physicians

The Dr. Jacqueline Youtsos Scholarship for Medical Students is now accepting applications from eligible undergraduate and medical students across the United States. Founded by Dr. Jacqueline Youtsos, MD, the annual scholarship aims to encourage the next generation of physicians by recognizing students whose personal experiences have inspired a commitment to compassionate, equitable, and patient-centered healthcare. Dr. Youtsos believes that exceptional physicians are shaped by more than academic achievement; personal resilience, empathy, and firsthand experiences with healthcare often influence how future medical professionals care for patients and address disparities in access to treatment.

The scholarship is open to students currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university as an undergraduate pursuing a pre-medical curriculum, biology, health sciences, or related field, or those enrolled in an accredited U.S. Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) program. Applicants must submit an original essay of 500 to 800 words responding to a prompt that draws inspiration from Dr. Youtsos's own experience with a melanoma diagnosis during her medical residency, which gave her the unique perspective of both physician and patient. The essay should describe a personal challenge, health-related experience, or interaction with the healthcare system that strengthened the applicant's desire to become a physician and how that experience will influence their commitment to delivering compassionate, accessible care to underserved communities. Notably, the selection process does not include a minimum GPA requirement, emphasizing authenticity, leadership potential, personal reflection, and dedication to service over academic metrics.

One recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship to support educational expenses. The application deadline is February 15, 2027, and the recipient will be announced on March 15, 2027.
