DFW Car and Toy Museum Wins Fort Worth's Best Family Outing Award

The DFW Car and Toy Museum, Texas' largest car museum located in Fort Worth, has achieved a significant milestone by being named Fort Worth Magazine's 2025 "Best of Fort Worth" Reader Pick Winner in the Family Outing subcategory of the Nightlife and Entertainment category. This prestigious recognition comes just seven months after the museum's opening in April 2025, highlighting its rapid acceptance and popularity among Fort Worth residents. Founder and owner Ron Sturgeon expressed genuine elation at the outpouring of votes, emphasizing the honor of being chosen by the local community for such a distinguished award. The museum's recognition as a Reader Pick Winner underscores its immediate impact on the local cultural scene and its appeal as a family-friendly destination.

The museum represents the culmination of Sturgeon's lifelong passion for collecting, which began over 40 years ago with toy Mercedes cars and expanded to include rare and vintage automobile-themed items, race cars, scale models, vintage toys, unique signs, automotive memorabilia, and other historic collectibles. What started as personal collections has transformed into a 150,000-square-foot immersive experience featuring more than 3,000 vintage collectible toys and an extraordinary multi-million-dollar collection of over 200 classic and unique cars. The automotive displays showcase rare exotic cars, European masterpieces, celebrity-owned vehicles, unique oddities, historic race cars, and modern supercars including a 647 hp 2017 Ford GT and a 986 hp 2022 Ferrari SF90. The museum also serves as a popular private event space, offering versatile venues for various occasions.

Among the most captivating attractions are the museum's rare toy collections, particularly the space toys from the mid-1900s that include three extraordinary robots: Gumbo, Electroman, and Big Loo. Gumbo the Robot Dispenser stands nearly five feet tall as a rare Italian coin-operated gumball vending machine from the late 1950s, featuring polished metal construction and illuminated orange eyes. Electroman, known as "the holy grail" of robot collectors, showcases stunning lithograph detailing and mechanical movements powered by batteries. Big Loo, manufactured for the 1963 holiday season with only about 5,000 units produced, stands over 38 inches tall and features multiple interactive functions including rocket launching, ball throwing, and water squirting capabilities.
