Atlanta Food Bank Honors 2025 Hunger Champions Fighting Food Insecurity

The Atlanta Community Food Bank, one of the nation's largest food banks and the Southeast's largest, recently honored its 2025 Hunger Champions at a special luncheon hosted at their headquarters. These awards recognize exceptional individuals and organizations across five categories who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to fighting food insecurity in metro Atlanta and north Georgia. As President & CEO Kyle Waide emphasized, "As food insecurity continues to rise in Georgia and funding sources shift, we depend on our community more than ever to sustain vital programs for neighbors in need." The Hunger Champions embody true community leadership through their generous contributions of time, resources, and advocacy during the previous fiscal year, celebrating those who have gone above and beyond to advance the Food Bank's mission of expanding food access across the region.

This year's distinguished honorees include The Kroger Company as Food Donor of the Year, which has partnered with the Food Bank since 1999 and currently donates nutritious food seven days a week, contributing over three million pounds of food last year including more than 1.4 million pounds of perishable items. Margie's House earned Partner Agency of the Year for distributing over 409,000 pounds of food with significant produce content and operating the largest Commodity Supplemental Food Program partnership. Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper received Public Official of the Year for his advocacy in increasing state budget support for the Georgia Grown Farm to Food Bank Program, while The Schoen Foundation was named Supporters of the Year after investing $1.5 million to bolster the Food Bank's response efforts. Volunteer of the Year Raymond Wright was recognized for his vital contributions at the Stone Mountain Community Food Center, where he helps serve more than 180 households daily.

The Atlanta Community Food Bank works throughout the year to connect more than 820,000 people with healthy and nutritious food through its network of over 700 nonprofit partners across 29 counties. The organization, which distributed its one billionth meal in 2023, continues its mission to ensure all hungry people across metro Atlanta and north Georgia have access to nutritious meals when needed.
