Alpha Kappa Alpha Tennessee Cluster Supports Infants in Need

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® (AKA) is bringing its legacy of service to Nashville, Tennessee, as members from across the state gather for the Tennessee Statewide Cluster on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Hosted at Mt. Zion Baptist Church—a historic anchor of North Nashville's Black business, education, and cultural corridor and a key organizing hub during the civil rights movement—the day-long meeting will focus on the business and initiatives of the nation's oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women. The event will also feature a meaningful service project, "Little Ones, Big Love," which will collect infant care essentials for babies ages 0-12 months entering foster care and support pregnant and new mothers in need.

Donations from the service project will benefit AGAPE Nashville and Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center, two organizations dedicated to serving vulnerable children and families throughout the Nashville community. Members from across Tennessee are contributing diapers, wipes, bottles, onesies, diaper bags, socks, baby caps, stuffed animals, pacifiers, bibs, pull-ups, and other essential infant care items. South Eastern Regional Director Toni Franklin emphasized the project's importance, stating, "Every child deserves to begin life surrounded by care, comfort, and hope." She also noted that Nashville's welcoming atmosphere and outstanding facilities make it an ideal location for the statewide gathering, which provides an opportunity for members to conduct sorority business while strengthening their commitment to service.

The Tennessee Cluster is one of three Statewide Clusters hosted by the South Eastern Region in 2026. The region comprises approximately 124 chapters and more than 15,000 members throughout Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Founded in 1908 at Howard University, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® is the first Greek-letter organization established by African American college-trained women. Today, it boasts more than 390,000 initiated members in over 1,107 graduate and undergraduate chapters located in 45 U.S. states or territories and 12 countries.
