Albentosa Unveils Holy Grail Route Project with EU Funding

The City Council of Albentosa presented the results of the project "The Way of the Holy Grail" on June 26, 2026, an initiative that has adapted and improved the cultural itinerary as it passes through the municipality. The project aims to reinforce tourist attraction and commitment to sustainable development in rural areas. Key figures at the presentation included Mayor Yolanda Salvador Corella, regional president José Luis Alvira, provincial deputy Ana Cris Lahoz, and first vice-president Beatriz Martín.

The project was conceived by Dr. Ana Mafé García, president of the Cultural Association El Camino del Santo Grial and an expert in tourism in the development of cultural itineraries. It was financed by European Next Generation EU funds within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, totaling two million euros. Actions included trail improvements, creation of tourist routes, rehabilitation of a pilgrims' refuge, signage, access adaptation, urban beautification, and promotion and training actions. The tourism promotion is also supported by the Strategic Plan of Subsidies of the Department of Environment and Tourism of the Government of Aragon.

Albentosa consolidates itself as a reference municipality in enhancing The Way of the Holy Grail, demonstrating cooperation between public administrations, cultural entities, and scientific knowledge to promote economic, tourist, and social development in rural Aragon. The route follows the Holy Grail's journey from Huesca through various historic locations in Aragon, including the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña, Jaca, Bailo, Santa Cruz de la Serós, Loarre, Huesca, Zaragoza, Daroca, and Teruel, highlighting cultural heritage and sustainable development.
