Jayman Cross's 'MOM TRIED': A Dark Tale of Isolation and Forbidden Bonds

Jayman Cross's MOM TRIED is a dark adult novel about a mother and son whose isolation on a farm blurs family roles and leads to forbidden attraction. Out now.

This novel matters because it confronts the uncomfortable reality that extreme isolation and unmet emotional needs can erode even the most fundamental family boundaries. In a world where loneliness is increasingly recognized as a public health crisis, MOM TRIED offers a fictional case study of how people can drift into morally fraught territory not through malice, but through circumstance. It challenges readers to consider how quickly roles can blur when support systems disappear, and it underscores the importance of community and outside connections in maintaining healthy relationships. For fans of psychological fiction, the book provides a thought-provoking exploration of taboo subjects without offering easy answers, reminding us that understanding human behavior—even at its darkest—requires empathy and nuance.
