Wired Solutions Urges Generator Safety Before Iowa Winter Storms

Wired Solutions warns Des Moines homeowners to plan generator safety before winter storms. CDC: CO poisoning kills 400+ yearly. Get a safe install.

This news matters because carbon monoxide poisoning is a silent, preventable killer that becomes far more likely during power outages, when families are most tempted to cut corners. The CDC’s figures—hundreds of deaths and tens of thousands of emergency visits each year—show that the danger is not rare or hypothetical. For Des Moines-area residents, the difference between a portable generator in a garage and a professionally installed standby system can be life or death. Planning ahead, investing in proper installation, and placing battery-backed CO detectors near bedrooms are simple steps that protect households and reduce the burden on emergency services. As more homes add EV chargers and other high-demand loads, having a licensed electrician assess the electrical panel also prevents overloads and ensures that backup power is both safe and sufficient.
