Don Francisco Bay's 'Impulse' Launches Recon Priest Series

Don Francisco Bay's 'Impulse' launches the Recon Priest series with a Marine-turned-priest battling cartels and his own past. A gripping literary crime novel.

This novel matters because it explores the profound moral tension between violence and faith, challenging readers to consider how one can serve God after taking lives in war. Dutch Petersen is not a simple vigilante in a cassock; he is a man permanently shaped by both his military past and his priestly calling. The book raises urgent questions about justice, redemption, and the cost of pursuing both inside a flawed institution. By weaving a gripping crime narrative with serious theological reflection, Bay offers a fresh take on the thriller genre, one that treats faith as a genuine subject rather than a costume. For readers weary of one-dimensional action heroes, 'Impulse' provides a complex protagonist whose internal struggle is as compelling as the external chase. Moreover, the novel's depiction of a parish grappling with scandal and decline resonates with real-world conversations about accountability and renewal. Ultimately, 'Impulse' reminds us that some battles are fought not with weapons but with the quiet, stubborn hope that healing is possible.
