Beauty & Bodywork Insurance Releases 2025 Claims Report on Salon and Spa Risk
Claims Data and Consumer Survey Findings Highlight Operational Risks Facing Beauty and Bodywork Professionals
PLEASANT GROVE, UTAH - March 23, 2026 (NEWMEDIAWIRE) - Beauty & Bodywork Insurance (BBI), a provider of niche insurance products designed for beauty, wellness, and bodywork professionals nationwide, today released new industry data drawn from real insurance claims with 2025 dates of loss, paired with findings from a nationwide consumer survey. The report offers a closer look at the risks beauty and bodywork professionals face and how insurance coverage can influence client trust when choosing a provider.
BBI reviewed claims filed by salons, spas, and independent professionals including hairstylists, estheticians, nail technicians, lash artists, and massage therapists. Total payouts reached $929,187 in 2025, with a median claim of $2,500 and an average claim of $4,890.
Most incidents fell within a manageable range, with the vast majority of claims staying under $10,000. Larger events occurred far less frequently but accounted for a significant share of total payouts.
“Most claims beauty and bodywork professionals face come from everyday operational issues rather than catastrophic events,” said Daryle Stafford, CEO of Veracity Insurance. “Routine incidents happen more often than people expect. Insurance helps professionals handle those situations without interrupting their business, while also protecting them if a rare but costly event occurs.”
The report also highlights where many professionals face exposure in day-to-day operations. Water damage emerged as the most common type of claim, while property-related incidents and service-related injuries appear frequently across claims filed by salons, spas, and independent practitioners. Certain events, however, carry far greater financial consequences. Fire-related incidents accounted for a disproportionate share of total payouts despite representing a small percentage of overall claims.
BBI paired its claims analysis with a national survey of 1,000 U.S. adults to better understand what clients value when choosing a beauty or bodywork provider.
Sixty-two percent of respondents said they are more likely to book with a professional who carries liability insurance. Participants also ranked service quality, affordability, and provider credentials among the top considerations when choosing a salon, spa, or independent practitioner.
“Insurance does more than cover losses,” said JoAnne Hammer, Program Manager at BBI. “Many clients see it as a sign that a professional runs a responsible business. Coverage helps protect the provider if something goes wrong and signals to clients that the person delivering the service takes their work seriously.”
BBI compiled the report using claims with 2025 dates of loss along with survey responses collected from a nationally representative sample of 1,000 U.S. adults in November 2024. To read the full report, please visit https://www.insurebodywork.com/blog/beauty-and-bodywork-liability-statistics
