Youth Sports Leaders Collaborate to Offer Top-Notch Sports Development for Olney Families

After years of competing on baseball, softball, and lacrosse fields and basketball courts, two of the community’s largest and most recognized youth sports organizations are merging to build a comprehensive sports program. This merger will offer families in the Olney region access to some of the best training, player development, and sense of community that youth sports in Maryland can offer.

The Olney Boys and Girls Sports Association (OBGC) and Sandy Spring Athletic Association (SSAA) leadership are announcing a merger of the two sports organizations. All of the SSAA teams (players and coaches) will be brought under the OBGC organization, for the first time unifying the organizations. Teams will share field resources, as well as training facilities and developmental tools, providing a synergy that will benefit players of all age groups and skill levels.

“After 13 incredible years, Sandy Spring is excited to unite the Olney youth sports community under the respected OBGC banner. This merger means our athletes will now play together as part of one strong organization,” said John Kadi, baseball commissioner of Sandy Spring.

Founded in 2012, the Sandy Spring Falcons have been dedicated to nurturing young athletes in a safe and supportive environment. With roots dating back to the 1950s, SSAA has a rich legacy of fostering teamwork and sportsmanship. “The development and growth of the area’s athletes is our priority, and the benefits of merging with OBGC are clear,” said Ben Corb, President of the SSAA. “Players and families from both organizations will benefit, and will gain access to the finest sports facilities and amenities in Olney.”

Sean Davis, OBGC travel baseball commissioner, expressed his enthusiasm: “We have so many talented coaches, families, and players in both organizations. Coming together as one cohesive Olney baseball community is truly exciting, and the way it should be. As we look ahead to the fall season, we anticipate welcoming 125 SSAA players to OBGC teams.”

“We’re thrilled for the youth of greater Olney. By combining the talent of our dedicated coaches, commissioner, and volunteers, we will ensure that our area’s kids receive the best possible development in youth sports,” stated Brad Scott, Executive Director of OBGC.

The merger is set to begin immediately, with full operational integration expected by December 2025.
