Sip, Sing, Slay & Celebrate This September at Broward Center for The Performing Arts
This September at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, audiences can experience a show-stopping lineup bursting with energy, emotion and electric entertainment. From legendary tributes and fierce drag royalty to soulful gospel, orchestral animation, Brazilian classics, comedy and family fun, there’s something for everyone to fall for this month.
The Australian Pink Floyd Show celebrates its 50th Anniversary Tour bringing the original songs that fans across the world love to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, September 6 at 8 p.m. as part of the Cleveland Clinic Rock Series. The Australian Pink Floyd Show brings state-of-the-art lighting and video, pinpoint lasers, huge inflatables and flawless live sound, the benchmark of Pink Floyd shows, to guarantee a memorable live experience for audiences old and new. This tour reinforces TAPFS’s dedication to the heritage of Barrett, Waters, Gilmour, Wright and Mason with a show that pays sincere and genuine tribute to legendary Pink Floyd productions.
The nominees are in, and the competition is fierce. This year, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and AEG Presents brings RuPaul’s Drag Race – Werq the World to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center on Friday, September 12 at 8 p.m., taking audiences behind the velvet ropes of the most exclusive awards show in “herstory.” Guests will walk the red carpet hosted by Jimbo as Joan Rivers, with sickening performances by Daya Betty as Pink; Derrick Barry as Britney Spears; Jaida Essence Hall as Beyoncé; Jorgeous as Ariana Grande; Naomi Smalls as Mariah Carey; Vanessa Vanjie as Rihanna; and surprise guests including finalists from season 17. Presented by Voss Events in collaboration with World of Wonder and MTV, this event contains adult language or content and is for audiences ages 18 years and older, with valid ID required. Line-up is subject to change.
Celebrate the 60th anniversary of “Dois na Bossa,” the groundbreaking 1965 live album by Elis Regina and Jair Rodrigues that revolutionized Brazilian music, with Jair Oliveira, Luciana Mello & Guests: 60 Years of 2 na Bossa on Saturday, September 13 at 8 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts as part of the TD Bank Jazz Series. In this special tribute with a Brazilian Jazz Trio, Jair Oliveira and special guest Luciana Mello—both children of the legendary Jair Rodrigues—come together to honor the iconic collaboration that left a lasting mark on Brazilian culture. Oliveira is a celebrated and awarded Brazilian singer, songwriter, arranger and producer. Mello, also a Latin Grammy nominee, is known for her work across Latin, pop, samba and soul genres. Together, they bring their unique artistry and deep personal connection to the stage. Featuring Bossa-Nova classics like “O Morro Não Tem Vez,” “Arrastão,” “Eu Sei Que Vou Te Amar” and “Menino das Laranjas,” Jair, Luciana & Guests: Dois na Bossa 60 Years is a heartfelt tribute to a timeless performance that continues to inspire generations.
With breathtaking views of the New River and downtown Fort Lauderdale, wine lovers of all levels will enjoy this interactive experience when the Broward Center presents a Wine Tasting with Master Sommelier George Miliotes on Sunday, September 14 at 1:30 p.m. at Marti’s New River Bistro at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Master sommelier and restaurateur George Miliotes, one of only 279 master sommeliers in the world, will host an intimate “blind” wine tasting, sharing access to diverse and coveted varietals while teaching guests the art of blind tasting. Every cork popped opens lively conversations, with untold vineyard stories and a chance to put your palate to the test. Miliotes plunges into a world of renowned reds, refreshing whites and every extraordinary note in between. The Orlando resident became a master sommelier by passing a series of rigorous examinations that require candidates to identify wines by taste, aroma and sight. A firm believer in lifelong learning and sharing his knowledge with others, Miliotes studies wine continuously, identifying the most interesting varieties through annual trips to wine-growing regions from France to South Africa. The tasting experience includes a selection of wines including three red and three white offerings, and a shareable charcuterie board. Ticketholders must be 21 years or older to attend.
With its concert entitled “PEACE,” the Grammy- and Emmy-winning Soweto Gospel Choir brings its South African freedom songs, traditional spirituals and some classics to the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. Part of the Baptist Health Red Carpet Series, this inspirational concert will also feature the spirited music of Aretha Franklin, Harry Belafonte, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Leonard Cohen and more. Formed in 2002, Soweto Gospel Choir was created to celebrate the unique power of African gospel music and quickly established itself as a group that is “undeniably synchronized, appears unshakable, and simultaneously expresses universality and individuality,” according to the San Francisco Classical Voice. Heralded by Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey, Soweto Gospel Choir excites audiences worldwide, uplifting the soul and spreading joy through its earthy rhythms, rich harmonies, brilliant costumes and infectious spirit. It’s a perfect performance for the entire family to enjoy.
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Outback Presents bring stand-up comedian Tony Hinchcliffe: The Fully Groan Tour to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center on Friday, September 19 at 7 p.m. The host of the popular live podcast “Kill Tony,” Hinchcliffe began hosting the online RoastMaster Class in 2020, drawing from his more than decade-long knowledge of writing for eight Comedy Central “Roast” episodes and performing on roasts and roast battles. Based out of The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, Hinchcliffe regularly headlines at every major club as well as some of the finest theaters in America, Australia and Europe. This event will be a phone-free experience. Use of cellphones, smart watches, smart accessories, cameras or recording devices will not be permitted in the performance space. “Avatar: The Last Airbender” in Concert 20th Anniversary Tour presents a live orchestral rendition of the series’ iconic soundtrack, paired with a two-hour special recap of the three seasons of the animated series, all on a full-size cinema screen. Audiences won’t want to miss this spectacular performance as the series celebrates its 20th anniversary in the Broward Center’s Au-Rene Theater on Saturday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Mosaic Series. The projection will feature the original dialogue and sound effects without any pre-recorded music, allowing the live orchestra to perform the legendary score live and in perfect sync with the show’s favorite scenes, giving way to a truly immersive and grandiose concert experience that breathes new life into “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” A Peabody and Emmy-winning series, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” follows the adventures of the main protagonist Aang and his friends, who must defeat Fire Lord Ozai and end the Hundred-Year War to restore balance to the Four Nations. Taiko and erhu will share the spotlight with violins and clarinets, while the most beloved scenes of the series play out on the big screen, bringing viewers into the Avatar world to experience the most memorable moments with Aang, Katara, Toph, Sokka, Zuko and more. The creative mastermind behind the show’s original music, Emmy-winning composer and musician Jeremy Zuckerman has poured his heart and exceptional talent into expanding his compositions for the concert series. Through creative collaboration with the show’s original editor, Jeff Adams, this spectacular production magnifies the epic scope and high drama of the series and gives its audience the chance to experience the captivating world of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” through this live orchestra concert.
The audience is invited to make music with Blippi in the Broward Center’s Au-Rene Theater on Saturday, September 27 at 2 p.m. during the brand new live “Blippi: Join the Band Tour!” as part of the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Imagination Series. Blippi will be joined onstage by Meekah, their singing and dancing buddies and live musicians to explore what makes music, including sounds, rhythms and instruments, through all the favorite Blippi hits. The audiences will want to grab some drumsticks, tune up the guitar and move their feet with Blippi during this musical performance that’s fun for the entire family.
The Broward Center and AEG Presents bring “Puddles Pity Party” on Saturday, September 27 at 8 p.m. to the Amaturo Theater. Described by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as “Pagliacci by way of Pee-Wee Herman and David Lynch,” Puddles has amassed 912,000 YouTube subscribers and nearly 300 million views for his indelible interpretations of classics by ABBA, David Bowie, Britney Spears, Cheap Trick, Sia, Tom Waits and Queen along with his unforgettable rendition of the smoosh-up “Pinball Wizard/Folsom Prison Blues.” A finalist on Season 12 of “America’s Got Talent” and a contestant on “AGT: The Champions” in 2020, Puddles continues to captivate audiences with his unique blend of melancholy and showmanship.
