Youth for Human Rights Launches Global Tour with Capitol Hill Conference

Marking a significant milestone in global human rights advocacy, Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) launched its World Educational Tour 2026 with a powerful two-day conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. The event, celebrating YHRI's 25th anniversary, brought together over 150 delegates including diplomats, veterans, attorneys, nonprofit executives, and civic leaders to reaffirm education as a practical tool for policy engagement and community protection. Hosted in strategic partnership with the U.S. Institute of Diplomacy and Human Rights (USIDHR), the conference featured three focused panels addressing human rights leadership on the global stage, human trafficking prevention strategy, and veterans' rights protections, with speakers including Azhar Haq of Youth for Human Rights DC, Porscha Lee Taylor, Hollie Nadel of 3Strands Global Foundation, Joy Craig of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Blanquita Cullum of Voices Against Trafficking.

The conference's opening session inside the United States Congress placed dialogue within the institution where national policy is shaped, emphasizing the connection between education and legislative action. On the second day, delegates participated in a Human Rights Advocacy and Public Engagement Training led by Dr. Isabelle Vladoiu, Founder of USIDHR and DC Human Rights Commissioner, and Anna Sineva, Director of Government Relations for the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office, focusing on legislative literacy and strategic mobilization. The gathering concluded with a coordinated human rights walk to the White House, symbolizing peaceful civic participation and the principle that education must translate into visible, responsible action. This Washington, DC conference served as the first stop of the World Educational Tour 2026 and highlighted YHRI's 25 years of global impact since its founding in 2001 by Dr. Mary Shuttleworth, who was born and raised under Apartheid in South Africa.

As part of this anniversary year, Youth for Human Rights International will also participate in the 20th International Human Rights Summit at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, further advancing its mission to teach youth about human rights through both classroom and nontraditional educational settings.
